The missed call is the lead you already had

Every missed call is a person who found you, was ready to hire you, and went to someone else. The fix is not complicated.

Here is the thing about a missed call.

The person who called was already past the hard part. They found you. They picked you over whoever else came up. They were ready to talk. They rang.

You did not answer because you were on a roof or under a sink or in the middle of a job. That is the business. Nobody expects a tradie to sit by the phone.

But here is what happens next. They try the next number.

Not because you did something wrong. Because they need the job done and they have got other options on the screen.

The problem with voicemail

Leaving a voicemail is a commitment. Most people will not make it. They have to think of something to say, record it, and trust that you will call back in time. That is three points of friction on top of an already-small window.

Most will just hang up and ring the next one.

Even the ones who do leave a voicemail have often moved on by the time you call back two hours later. You have heard it: “Oh, I already sorted it.” The job was yours and then it was not.

What actually works

A short form on the website costs them thirty seconds. Name, suburb, what is the job. They fire it off while they are thinking about it, they go back to whatever they were doing, and they have committed to you without needing to have a conversation right now.

The second they send it, it arrives on your phone as a text with their name and number. And they get a message back saying their enquiry is in and you will be in touch.

That second part matters more than it sounds. They know you got it. They are not wondering if the form worked. They are not going to ring someone else while they wait, because they are not waiting for a phone to ring. They are waiting for a callback they were told to expect.

The window between someone searching for a tradie and booking one is short. Everything in a good website is aimed at closing it before someone else does.

That is the whole thing, really. Not ranking. Not strategy. Just making sure the person who found you can actually reach you, even at nine at night when you are not answering.
